TikTok Beauty Trends – December 2024
Every month NellyRodi beauty experts show you a selection of the most interesting trends on TikTok. Here’s the update for December 2024!
Contrast Makeup
If you spend time on TikTok, you’ve likely come across the contrast makeup trend. This beauty theory focuses on enhancing your natural features to create a look that blends with your traits instead of hiding them. The idea is to emphasize the natural contrast between skin tone, hair and eyes.

The approach is already being used in the fields of professional makeup and photography. It organizes individuals into three categories – low, medium and high contrast – based on the differences between their skin tone, hair and eyes. Makeup is then adjusted to fit these levels of contrast, similar to the principles of color analysis in fashion. The technique, however, focuses on contrast, not colors. For instance, a black-and-white filter created by makeup artist @alieenor on TikTok can reveal whether your features are naturally pronounced or not.
For people with low contrast (light hair, skin and eyes), the choice would lean toward soft and natural makeup, like the famous no-makeup makeup look. Conversely, for high contrast individuals (a marked difference between skin, hair and eyes), bold lips and smoky eyes that amplify this natural contrast are a better choice.

The goal isn’t to mask but to enhance what you already have. This ideal approach suits those looking for a beauty routine in sync with their individuality; it moves away from transformation trends and standardized faces. It also gives brands an opportunity to provide personalized recommendations, helping customers build beauty kits that reflect their identity. With the emphasis on personal expression rather than predefined beauty standards, the trend encourages brands to develop tailored solutions, customized advice and active engagement with their communities.
TikTok as an accelerator for Christmas beauty shopping
This year, TikTok has made a name as the go-to platform for Gen Z ahead of the Christmas season. Along with sharing beauty trends and seasonal tutorials, the social network is spotlighting products likely to appear under many Christmas trees, thanks to TikTok Shop and its live shopping sessions.
The platform had already anticipated triple-digit growth for Black Friday compared to last year, with twice as many businesses active as in 2023. The hashtag #TikTokShopBlackFriday generated over a million posts worldwide last month. Beauty, one of the most prominent categories, is also experiencing immense success, with a product sold every two seconds.

TikTok is also predicting record Christmas sales this year, and some brands are already capitalizing on this trend. For instance, sales of Made by Mitchell’s palettes have soared by 624%. Perfume is also a trending gift for the holidays, with fragrances like Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million, Prada Paradoxe and products from Jean Paul Gaultier and Carolina Herrera among the bestsellers. TikTok has also seen a revival of iconic 90s perfumes; sales of Joop! and Homme by Coty, for example, have increased by 380%.

Live shopping on TikTok is redefining the relationship between brands and consumers through deeply engaging, human interactions. The format transforms viewers into active participants in an immersive shopping experience. By combining entertainment, community and loyalty, TikTok offers brands a unique opportunity to become part of their audience’s daily lives while providing a festive, interactive experience. Products are showcased in a dynamic context, consumer questions are answered immediately, and exclusive real-time offers create a feeling of urgency and excitement. All this strengthens engagement and fosters lasting emotional connections between brands and their customers.
A look back at the 2024 micro-aesthetic boom
Micro-esthetics are thriving on TikTok. These ultra-specific and often short-lived stylistic niches shape not only cultural and social practices but also consumer behavior and younger generations’ perceptions of beauty. Popularized on the platform, micro-esthetics reflect a quest for individuality and personalization in a world increasingly critical of overproduction and standardization.
Are you a clean girl, a mob wife, a coastal girl or maybe a preppy? In 2024, the list kept growing.
We’ve seen a plethora of micro-esthetics, from coastal cowgirls and slick-back buns to the clean girl style, mob wife glam, the Y2K revival, glazed donut skin, brat summer, and the very demure, very mindful back-to-school look. Each trend has shaped beauty choices and fueled ultra-targeted consumption. Micro-esthetics go beyond makeup; they represent entire lifestyles and worlds. Each has its own codes, influences and values, shaping the daily lives of its followers. For instance, the clean girl aesthetic, with over 700 million views on TikTok, doesn’t just promote a natural, polished look but inspires a lifestyle centered on wellness, simplicity and authenticity. It includes skincare routines, minimalist clothing choices, and an organized, healthy way of life.
On the other hand, the mob wife aesthetic, which gained over 400 million views earlier this year, draws inspiration from mafia wives and celebrates a sophisticated look that blends opulence with a rebellious edge. Embracing this style means elegant outfits, flashy accessories, and a bold, confident attitude.
But the constant evolution of these trends can overwhelm consumers, making it challenging to keep up and adapt. This can lead to confusion and even esthetic fatigue. Ironically, this dynamic sometimes produces unexpected or humorous outcomes.

Some consumers are choosing to boycott these micro-trends completely, preferring to focus on a more authentic style that reflects their true selves. This awareness underscores the value of a thoughtful approach that resists fast consumption and offers greater satisfaction and sustainability.

For brands, the explosion of micro-esthetics presents an opportunity to stand out by aligning with values of individuality and authenticity. By targeting specific segments with niche collections and relevant campaigns, they can strengthen their image and capture the attention of a clientele passionate about those unique esthetics. We eagerly await what 2025 will bring.
