TikTok gives renters tips and tricks for decorating their homes for the short term. These rental-friendly tips let them personalize their space without making landlords angry. They also help everyone follow ephemeral interior design trends in the era of “fashionization” and staging interiors. On TikTok and in interiors, we’re seeing the return of bold colors, notably azure blue or cornflower blue and burgundy red. The brand Alpi, for example, sells a wood veneer with neo-Memphis-inspired patterns aptly named “Ettore Sottsass” in homage to the leading figure of the 80s movement. The veneer is available in gray as well as a striking red that notably covers a wall in the Off-White flagship store in Paris.

Various uses of aluminum, stainless steel and chrome have been popular in the collections of independent design editors for some time and are also gaining popularity in our interiors and on TikTok. Publishers such as Format, NM3 and The Guild of Saint Luke showed such pieces at Matter & Shape and the Salone del Mobile in Milan. On TikTok, Ikea’s very popular Hyllis shelves are seen as a cheap alternative to designer furniture.
